The National Dachshund Races
COME VISIT US FOR A DAY OF FAMILY FUN!
  www.weinerrace.com

The National Dachshund Races are held the last Sunday in September (this year the date is September 30th), at the Hancock County Fairgrounds in Findlay, Ohio. May you enjoy your visit to our website and to our event.
      How God made Dachshund's
God made a little Dachsie to brighten up our day.
He took a bit of sunshine, laughter, love, and play.
And rolled it up in a sausage shape just right for a hug,
with bright eye's full of mischief in its little mug.
With little paws a pattering's, to take it here and there.
And a cold wet nose, but then he thought
      'Oh' what about the hair?
Shall I make it long and silky?
or wiry, that's so sweet, or make it simple,
and have it smooth and staying so neat.
And all the creatures great and small,
the answer came to him.
"OF COURSE" - I'll make them ALL!
So remember that a dachshund is special, from above
His coat of many colors, is a sign of God's great Love!

While these are called "The National Dachshund Races" and yes we have our named winners and of course those that do not win, we believe just being here is a triumph for all dogs that participate and for the families that know this is an event based on pure fun and the love of the breed.
It brings to mind a couple quotes from the famous. The first while written about football, we find quite appropriate. The first quote goes like this:
We will be competing for when the One Great Scorer comes To write against your name,
He marks not that you won or lost - But how you played the game
Author: Grantland Rice
  The Second:
It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog
Author: Dwight D. Eisenhower
There are NO WINNERS AND NO LOSERS Here! All that participate are winners in our book. We want you ALL to come and enjoy a Day of Fun at The National Dachshund Races!

I'm Fixed. How About You?
Many times we hear these words and just do not realize their importance!
WE STRONGLY SUPPORT the Spay/Neuter of your Pets!
Unwanted Pets end up in Unwanted Places!

About Me and the National Dachshund Races
Hello, My name is Toni Gossard. I am being encouraged to share my life with all of you, and why I started the National Dachshund Races. I have Polycystic Kidney Disease or P.K.D., which you can learn more about by going to their home page, www.pkdcure.org
I was put on a special plane complete with a nurse to take me from Findlay, Ohio to Mayo Hospital for a liver bisection by Dr. David Nagormey. I do not remember much for the first few days until I woke up very scared to see a man at the foot of my bed, I later learned that there was someone with me 24 hours a day until I came around, it was a long recovery time for me, and the liver bisection was in my mind worse then the 2 brain Aneurysms I had taken care of a few years earlier at the University of Colorado Science Center Hospital by Dr. Robert Breeze.
While I was recouping I had the chance to stay with my oldest sister, Connie and her husband, Alan. The only 2 things missing were my Doxies, Cuddles and Chloe. While laying and watching television (which I was getting good at doing), I was surfing through the channels and tuned into "The Best of the Breed" : they were showing a Dachshund race . At that point I knew what I needed to do when I got home. To my surprise the National Dachshund Races got attention and has gotten
bigger and better each year, it is a pleasant and fun activity for many people of all ages.
Many things have happened to me, it is a sad thing in life, but I have allowed myself to have interests in many areas and the Dachshund races has introduced me to many wonderful people, I have had the time to do many parades with many of the winning Doxies along with my own, (which does not compete in the races), they are smiles to my faces when I get feeling down.
Today I believe that the races, my Family, Friends, Faith and my Drs. are all a part of what keeps me here. There were many days when I got home, all I wanted to do was pull the covers over my head and never leave the bed, but my Doxies, Cuddles (red short hair) and Chloe (black and tan) had other ideas for me, the one thing they taught me was it was time for me to get on with
life. A few years ago my beloved Chloe passed away and as a tribute to her I created the Last Chance race.
The same year Nancy Stanberry, the sweetest person with the biggest heart who was the guiding force in my life passed away. As a tribute to her I created the Seniors race, 2 of her 5 Doxies came to live with me, Max (wire hair), and Spot (long hair). Besides my loving companions, I have 2 sons and 1 daughter, 1 daughter-in-law, 4 granddaughters, and 3 grandsons to share my life with.
Thank you for stopping by and we hope to see you for a day of fun with us at
"The National Dachshund Races"

Thank you Toni for allowing us the opportunity to help and become a member of your proud team! You have created not just an event, but a legacy that will go on for cause's many would simply rather ignore.

*A Special Note - The National Dachshund Races does not promote racing for profits, only for the thrill and the excitement of watching your Doxie participate in challenging other Doxies.

Please enjoy yourself at all events you go to and make sure your Doxie stays safe!

  Best Regards,

The Dove Foundation calls the film "laugh out loud funny" and the well-known Christian reviewer Ted Baehr of Movieguide calls it an "amusing, campy, whimsical, heartfelt movie" that is "especially fun for young children."
Lithium Springs , an independent film photographed in the woods, swamps, rivers and underwater caves of central Florida is a family friendly, comedy-adventure indie film that tells the
story of a treasure hunter and his dachshund in their search for the lost treasure of Ponce de Leon and the Fountain of Youth.
Filmed in Hardee County, Hillsborough County, Polk County, Manatee County and also at Ginny Springs near Gainesville and the Devil's Den near Williston, Florida, this clean, wholesome but hilarious independent film is Florida folklore storytelling at
its finest. Not to be confused with the real-life spring at Lithia Springs near Tampa, Lithium Springs' true location is not identified by the filmmakers.
Lithium Springs has a strong environmental theme. Using nature, wildlife, magic woods creatures (including a woods nymph introduced initially in a difficult yoga inversion), the Florida outdoors and the spiritual nature of Mother Earth herself, Fred the Dachshund ultimately demands that the environment and ecology of Florida come before monetary gain. Kids, parents, grandparents - in fact the entire family - will enjoy clean water winning out over litterbugs and environmental destruction.

      *Lithium Springs Movie Reviews*

Glory to God television's Joe Pope says "It gets to your heart. It could be played on anybody's station, regular TV broadcast of Christian broadcast. The whole family can watch it."

The Dove Foundation calls the film "laugh out loud funny"

The well-known Christian reviewer Ted Baehr of Movieguide calls it "an amusing, campy, whimsical, heartfelt movie" that is "especially fun for young children."

Joe Pope of the Gospel News in Alabama appreciates the diversity strength of the film and says "Encouraging fathers interested in canoeing and the woods will enjoy sharing this with their kids. Plus you have black and white people today in everyday situations. This is healthy and natural, it makes for strong family viewing."

This is a movie for canoe and kayak adventurers, kids, parents, grandparents, environmentalists, ecologists, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, yoga practitioners, pet lovers, Dachshund lovers, outdoor people and people who love the history, folklore and backwoods of Florida. Share this beautiful film with your family and friends. You'll be glad you did.

In return it asks little and gives a lot! A Puppy or Dog should be compared to an angel. It comes into this world and knows no wrong unless you allow it to go the other way and it can and often will become a little devil. This is why so many Dog Trainers have " lifelong jobs ". Proper training, reading literature and following the many articles written by experienced owners and breeders that will come and post on this website will help you keep that "precious little angel" that is inside every one of our companions! This is the purpose of this website and forum. Yours Truly Cafe' This website will be under constant construction as we will be adding A FULL BLOG, Chat Room, Area to Post Articles, Discussion Areas etc.! We would greatly appreciate it if you happen upon us to send us your comments and suggestions as to what YOU would like to see as features and as webmaster, I will do what I can to accommodate everyone. I want this to be the place everyone is talking about and will come and be an active member! The Contact Us link is functional as well as the comment sections and I will seriously listen to everyone’s input. *Just a note! Due to several paid projects that came my way, work on this website (as it is being done soley by me with no renumeration) had to be placed on the back burner. I am now finding time to begin again what I feel is both a needed and wanted website for Dachshund Lovers and Lovers of all animal companions big and small. To this end, I have just added a "Favorite Links" page that highlights in my view, a few websites (besides the ones shown in other areas) ones that may be of interest to you. If you have a website and would like to have it added, contact me via the contact form, provide genuine contact informaton, and I will get back to you and in most likelyhood, be happy to oblige. I do not wish to just open the links to any and all. I wish to keep them somehow related to this Website, or Children Friendly. Somewhere our kids can go and "safely" enjoy their online time!

Yours Truly Cafe For Dachshund Lovers! All Breeds Are Always Welcome!

Our first real companions (besides our children and grandchildren) had been English Budgies and cats and then a wonderful male Hungarian Kuvasz we rescued that weighed 125 pounds! What a change is all I can say to where we are now. Miniature Dachshunds you say? And some say it with a snicker, honestly we have found a truly exceptional breed of dog and being middle age and kind of a macho man I originally just could not see me with a Dachshund.
  Heaven Forbid!

My beautiful wife Karen convinced me these were a great breed and we should have a look. Well I will leave it to your imagination and just say that we got "Hershey" (our mini chocolate long hair) from a breeder whose reputation is quite tarnished at the moment however he is a sweet dog I would never give up for anything.
Well this changed! It is simply amazing how being married 27 years can weaken a mans objections when it comes to something his wife wants. We found a wonderful breeder named Eva from "Tiny Tails Ranch" in New Hampshire and added "Jesse" to the mix.
We love our pets like our children and grandchildren and therefore we searched diligently to provide the very best for them and hopefully find a way to pass around resources to other Dachshund lovers (or other breeds) and fill a void we see with current affairs going on around us. As we learn of them (and we will take suggestions from all of you) we will add continually to this website to have multiple free and paid link pages. Animal Rescue groups, articles on food and nutrition, vet care, local resources, possibly a section for pet item exchanges in select local areas for those that love their companions but may be facing a financial hardship, I am certain many people would love to help out! You name it we want to make this a full resource valuable content website and hopefully build a following thousands strong!

This Website is dedicated to our beloved "Ally" 1999 - 2004 Ally (a smooth red miniature Dachshund) was brought into our family in 1999. In July of 2004, Ally rapidly developed a condition known as IVDD and after an unsuccessful surgery, we lost her.
    Just a thought
--- "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole." --Roger Caras--
--- "Thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods. Cats have never forgotten this." --Anonymous--

Some Words of Advice from people who have felt the pain and financial Burdon we have faced!
When we brought Ally into our home, we were unaware of the greater risk of genetic defects inherent to puppy mill pets. I wish we knew then what we know now. These puppy mills are all around us. Ally was indeed a puppy mill dog disguised as a "how much is that doggy in the window" . While she provided great love and happiness to us, her end was not pleasant. Her pain, lots of love and prayer, thousands of dollars, and then heartache. You do not have to face what we have. We respectfully ask that you consider not purchasing a dog or cat from a pet store without fully researching it for this reason. We encourage you to seriously consider the adoption or rescue from a reputable shelter or animal rescue league. You will find many fine companions are available as we did with our companions. There may also be a qualified breeder in your area. Both options will have an experienced staff on hand to assist you in making the best fit for your lifestyle. This is a decision you will not regret later we assure you! A pet is for life and ALL pets deserve a GOOD home!
As responsible owners of our pets, friends and companions for life we should consider this our duty and it is SIMPLY JUST THE RIGHT THING TO DO! So help stop the overpopulation of unwanted pets of all types. Please Spay or Neuter your pet!
